Secondary Storage

What is secondary storage?

Secondary storage is used to store data and programs when not in use (long-term storage). It is non-volatile and has larger capacity than primary storage.


Types of secondary storage:

  • Magnetic storage → e.g., hard disk drives (HDD)

  • Optical storage → e.g., CDs, DVDs, Blu-ray discs

  • Solid-state storage → e.g., solid-state drives (SSD), USB flash drives
