TUTOR PROFILES
Dan Turnes

Dan has eight years of teaching experience, including four years of tutoring KS3, GCSE, and A Level. Through guided and personal support, he has helped many GCSE and A Level students achieve beyond the national average and exceed their target grades.
He trained during the COVID pandemic, effectively running the day-to-day operations of his department and collaborating with colleagues to implement high-quality, thorough digital resources. This ensured a smooth transition to remote teaching, both in schools and in private tuition, using platforms such as Google Drive/Meet and Microsoft Teams.
Dan’s focus is always on exceptional and critical student feedback, both verbal and in marking. From this approach, his students have flourished, with one A Level student improving from a D to an A* after struggling with the course content early on.
While highly experienced in GCSE tutoring, Dan’s current strength is filling the gap in the market for high-quality A Level tutoring, particularly in programming and the theory of programming. He also specialises in providing critical feedback and support for student programming coursework. Among his many teaching reminders, he encourages students to remember:
“measure twice, cut once when programming, and always be kind to yourself”.
Outside of teaching, Dan enjoys throwing math rocks (dice!) in board games and tabletop gaming such as Warhammer, and can’t resist the teaching mindset when running, managing, and problem-solving in roleplaying campaigns of Dungeons and Dragons.
